We know what you’re thinking…you want to know more about us. You probably need some context…a little background. Believe us, we’ve been there…it’s tough to really buy into a Bible study unless you feel a certain connection with the one or the ones who are leading the study.

The one thing you need to know about us is this…it’s our relationship with the Lord that gets us up each and every morning. We just love the thought of waking up every morning knowing that we are in God’s presence.

Bobbye & TonileeIn many down-to-earth ways it’s our relationship with Him and His constant presence with us that drives everything else we do in the course of the day. Not only in the obvious ways—like when we sit down for some devotion or study time, but when we’re in the car or with our kids or husbands or shopping for groceries, no matter—it’s our attitude, our frame of mind, based on Him and His constant presence that shapes and flavors everything we do.

We had studied the Bible on our own for years, long before we got together to start Daily Disciples. We noticed that although many women knew they needed to experience salvation through Jesus Christ they really had no idea they could experience His presence, encouragement, and leading every day. We were frustrated as we looked around because we really couldn’t find a good tool that could help women learn how to apply the Word of God themselves to their daily lives.

We had been prayer partners before but decided to work together on a study that would help people find answers in Scripture for their own lives. As we began to share our new Bible studies with others, we found that lives were changing. In many cases for the first time, people were getting answers to questions that they’d carried with them for a long time. And that got us excited about making these studies available to many more people.

Bobbye Brooks, a small-town girl from Tennessee, decided early on that being “good” didn’t really matter much. She had been “saved” at the age of eight in a summer revival service at her Baptist church, but when the church experienced a divisive split, she began to focus her energy on a fast-paced career and the lifestyle that went with it. She knew that Jesus was her Savior and that He was always with her, but she wanted to control her life and keep the Lord at a safe distance.

She was on a fast track to the executive office before she reached 30 years old until life took a turn. She started struggling with difficulties at work. Her marriage ended in divorce, and she lost her father.

Bobbye left Nashville and moved to San Diego, California, where she maintained her upwardly mobile career pace, but found herself wanting to settle down. She met and married a terrific guy and was blessed with an instant family who supported her career and seemed to adjust to her extensive travel.

The new family even attended church together as often as possible. Life was great, and with her MBA completed, Bobbye felt that she had finally reached her goals for success. She was convinced that her happiness was a result of her good decisions and the control she had over the direction in her life.

But God wasn’t as interested in her success as He was in her heart.

Bobbye suddenly had difficulty getting out of bed in the mornings. She was unmotivated at work, mentally slow, and physically exhausted. No amount of positive thinking or self-motivation seemed to help. Soon she was forced to take time off from work and rest. But no matter what she tried, she found herself getting worse. Her best laid plans hadn’t produced the desired results. In fact, nothing was working.

Bobbye struggled physically, mentally, and emotionally for more than a year. She felt hopeless and helpless. She constantly cried out to God to feel better, to be able to return to work, and to get on with her life. But nothing changed until Bobbye asked the Lord what He wanted from her. Following a long and frustrated prayer, she surrendered control to God, telling Him that He could do whatever He wanted with her life.

The following Sunday she signed up for her very first women’s Bible study. Slowly, her life began to change as she felt herself fall in love with Jesus and with His people.

She met Tonilee Adamson during this time, and they became fast friends as well as committed prayer partners. Bobbye was able to walk away from her former career and her ambitious striving and is now dedicated to the Lord’s plans and purposes.

Soon, Bobbye’s health in all areas was fully restored. Her personal goals and ambitions also changed. She no longer desires to pursue success in the business world but instead has chosen to pursue the work of the ministry.

Today, Bobbye and Tonilee are co-founders of “Daily Disciples Ministries.” They are authors, teachers and speakers with a passion and desire to teach others how to have a daily walk with Jesus Christ by studying the Bible and learning how to pray. They write Bible studies for churches and small groups and consult with those needing assistance in women’s ministry issues. They teach workshops and hold seminars on several topics including prayer, prayer journaling, and applying God’s Word to real-life situations.

Tonilee was raised in a strong Italian, Catholic family on the east coast. Her life was all about the family, the food and the church. But her New Jersey dynamics came to a complete change when her dad decided to make a career move from working in New York City to accepting a job in Southern California.

The transition was very difficult for the entire family (coast to coast) but the change in culture brought a change in heart. Two years later, Tonilee remembers praying a quick prayer before heading to church, “God, if you want me, you’ll need to show me. But I am afraid.” When the Priest dedicated the Mass to all who were afraid to accept Jesus into their heart as their Savior, Tonilee knew God had quickly answered her prayer. From that moment, Bible reading and prayer became an irresistible love in her life.

Tonilee soon realized that she possessed a God-given gift—a boldness to speak the truth of Jesus to everyone she met. Her parents started a Bible study in their home after they noticed their daughter’s new found faith and desire for Christian friends. Dramatic things began to happen as God drew students to Him. Lives were changed as the opportunities to witness were endless.

Tonilee left a very secular, public high school that became filled with intensely focused Christ centered Christians to attend a complacent Christian college to receive her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Struggling and discouraged with the emotional rollercoaster of college life, she graduated and married, falsely thinking that marriage would bring peace and clarity in purpose.  Her marriage continued to deteriorate but her nursing profession was continually improving. She quickly advanced to an Administrative position in the Neurological Unit, requiring an extremely high level of skill and expertise. She then transferred to the Intensive Care Unit, specializing in Heart Transplantation as she authored a comprehensive resource manual and trained other health care professionals in providing care for the heart transplant patient. Tonilee also assisted in initiating, training and teaching all levels of hospital employees in the development and usage of a comprehensive, hospital-wide computer system at Sharp Memorial Hospital, the largest health care facility in San Diego.

Despite her satisfaction with her profession, Tonilee felt that God had turned His back on her as she went through a divorce. Angry, hurt and confused, she purposely decided to keep God at a distance.  It took some time but Tonilee sensed His presence and heard God’s voice as Psalm 139:7-10 and John 10:27-28 became a living reality instead just memory verses.
Tonilee recommitted her life to Christ, knowing that regardless of the circumstances, God’s ways are better than any other way because Jesus Christ is the only way (John 14:6). Her desire to share the Lord and do His work has only increased over the years. She has years of training from Bible Study Fellowship, Community Bible Study and Campus Crusade for Christ as she has served and taught in numerous churches and outreaches.

Today, Tonilee is married with 3 wonderful children and a passion to lead others to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. She is an evangelist at heart with a desire to train others to become daily disciples of Jesus Christ. Along with her friend and prayer partner, Bobbye Brooks, they started the ministry “Daily Disciples.” Their passion is to help others deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ as they teach the hope and joy they have found in the study of His Word and prayer.
